Celebrating Volunteerism
at the Iowa Department for the Blindcollege student volunteer narrating a book

"With a giving attitude, every situation is an opportunity for success."

Last month, during its annual Elizabeth Perowsky Volunter Workshop and Luncheon, the Iowa Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped honored the many volunteers who offer their valuable time and skills to helping the Library.  Several volunteers received special recognition for the countless number of hours they give to the Library. The award winners are listed below.

Library volunteers do a number of tasks including producing audio and Braille books for library users, fixing talking book machines, and performing other helpful tasks that keep the Library running smoothly. The Iowa Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped serves Iowans who cannot read standard print by sending books and magazines in large print and Braille and audio formats through the mail. The library ships about 1,000 units of material through the mail each day to library users throughout the state. A library circulation program of this scale would not be possible without the help from volunteers!
