INFORMATION SPECIALIST 2
PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER

Serves overall Department needs for internal and external communication efforts.

Responsibilities are:

  • initiate and coordinate public education and outreach activities
  • monitor and proof outgoing communications
  • serve as Department's Public Information Officer
  • maintain Department displays
  • edit and oversee  production of Department newsletter, annual report, and other Department-wide documents
  • monitor and update website content
  • implement other outreach activities as needed

Duties also include:

  • Assist in planning, coordinating and publicizing Department events
  • Develop and maintain Department historical archive and displays
  • Plan and implement Knowledge Management System
  • Assist staff in capturing policies, procedures, resources and related information
  • Maintain Knowledge Management System

Media experience preferred.

Salary range:
$39,228.0  -  $58,676.80  annually, plus comprehensive benefit package, Pay Grade 25, Pay Plan 000

Hours: 
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday/  Some Travel required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with twenty-semester hours course work in journalism, public relations, graphics or communicative arts and experience equal to two years of full time work in preparing and writing materials to disseminate information to the public through the media of the press (newspaper/publications), radio/television, and/or public speaking;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting work experience in planning and writing materials to disseminate information to the public through the media of the press (newspapers/publications), radio/television, and/or public speaking for the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;

OR

graduate course work at an accredited college or university in journalism, public relations, graphics or communicative arts may be substituted for the required experience on the basis that thirty semester hours equals one year of experience to a maximum substitution of one year;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to eighteen months of full time work as an Information Specialist 1.
